3‑Hour Outdoor Workshop

Join artist Betty Ann Medeiros for a three‑hour plein air painting experience designed to help painters of all levels feel confident working outdoors. With her clear, encouraging, and highly practical teaching style, Betty Ann guides students through the plein air process step by step—making the landscape feel approachable, inspiring, and full of possibility.

What to Expect During the Class

9:30 Meet at upper parking lot( near public bathrooms)

Stay together as a group and set up at a spot suggested by Betty Ann

1. Opening Discussion: How to Get Started 
Betty Ann begins with a grounded, conversational introduction to plein air painting. She walks students through how to choose a scene, what to look for in a strong composition, how to simplify the landscape, and how to set up efficiently. She shares her personal strategies for reading light, identifying a focal point, and avoiding common beginner pitfalls. This discussion sets the tone for a relaxed, confident start.

2. Guided Setup & Individual Coaching 
Students select their vantage point and begin blocking in their compositions. Betty Ann circulates to offer hands‑on guidance Establishing big shapes and values
• Mixing harmonious, atmospheric color
• Simplifying busy scenery
• Building confidence


Her instruction is direct, supportive, and tailored to each painter’s level.

3. Independent Painting with Ongoing Instruction 
As students paint, Betty Ann moves from easel to easel, offering targeted feedback and small demonstrations when helpful. She helps students refine their compositions, strengthen color relationships, and stay loose and expressive while still capturing structure and light.

4. Final Refinements & Group Review 
The workshop ends with a friendly group critique where Betty Ann highlights strengths, offers constructive next steps, and teaches how to evaluate a plein air study for future studio work. Her critiques are known for being insightful, confidence‑building, and full of practical takeaways.

Students are required to bring their own materials and portable easel. 

Don’t forget paper towels, a drink, snack, hat, and sunscreen. 
There are bathrooms with running water at this location.
